At the end of May 2025, the special operation forces from Serbia and Egypt completed a joint exercise focused on counter-terrorism operations. The bi-national training activities were actively supported by helicopter units of Ратно ваздухопловство и противваздухопловна одбрана Војске Србије (the Serbian Air Force and Air Defence).
The joint training included personnel of the Serbian 72nd Special Operations Brigade and El-Sa’ka (English: thunderbolt) Egyptian Special Forces commando. It was the first exercise within the 2025 Bilateral Cooperation Plan that was agreed during the 16th meeting of Serbia-Egypt Mixed Military Committee, held at the beginning of April in Belgrade.
Within the exercise, the Serbian and Egyptian forces trained to improve their capabilities and to exchange experiences in special operations in both urban and rural environments. The training activities included live-fire counter-terrorism missions, helicopter operations with rappelling, first aid and medical evacuation tasks, as well as fire exercise with modern weapons from the Serbian armed forces inventory.
The bilateral exercise, that lasted two weeks, was performed at ´Rastko Nemanjić´ military facility in Pančevo and at ´Orešac´ training ground in the vicinity of Vršac.
It is worth to mention that last year, a similar training of Serbian and Egyptian special forces was also conducted in Egypt. According to the official statement of the Serbian Ministry of Defence, ´such activities improve interoperability and strengthens mutual trust, understanding and overall relations between Serbia and Egypt´.
