From 8 June to 4 July 2026, Armée de l’Air et de l’Espace (the French Air and Space Force) will deploy personnel and aircraft to the United States to take part in the celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American independence. The mission, named “Liberté 250”, will involve participation of the Patrouille de France aerobatic team, an Airbus A400M Atlas transport aircraft and approximately eighty-five French airmen.
During the deployment, the team’s Alphajets are expected to perform commemorative flypasts over several iconic locations linked with Franco-American history. These include the Statue of Liberty in New York, the National Mall in Washington and Independence Hall in Philadelphia. The French display team will also participate in a number of American air shows, among them events in Ocean City, Patuxent River and Baltimore have already been officially confirmed.
According to the French Air and Space Force, the deployment aims not only to commemorate the long-standing relationship between France and the United States, but also to demonstrate the operational capabilities of the service abroad. The accompanying A400M Atlas airlifter will provide logistical support for the transatlantic deployment of the Alphajets.

For the occasion, the aircraft of Patrouille de France will wear a special colour scheme and bear the names of notable figures associated with Franco-American history, including George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Joséphine Baker and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
The “Liberté 250” mission will also involve joint activities with the United States Air Force, including training opportunities for A400M and C-17 crews, further strengthening operational cooperation between the two air forces.
The French military authorities have stated that the Franco-American teamwork is expected to extend into multinational operations related to counter-terrorism, stabilisation efforts and international security. It will be further supported by continuous exchanges between airmen – including shared training programmes and reciprocal detachments – which foster a common operational culture.
Through the “Liberté 250” mission, Armée de l’Air et de l’Espace aims not only to celebrate a shared heritage but also to demonstrate its ability to conduct a large-scale air mission, several thousand kilometres from national territory.
